A couple of important things

  • I didn’t mean to pull yesterday’s post about English footballer Paul Scholes - I accidentally erased it. Sorry, these things happen.

  • I’m getting a little sick and tired of some of the racist/personally offensive crap I find in my comments section. And just to let you know, it comes in both anti-Korean and anti-Western forms. I’m a busy man, and I hate wasting time deleting comments which cross the line between culturally ignorant venting and incendiary racism. Despite the fact that I am well aware of the fact that banning a poster in the ROK (given the number if PC cafes, multiple IP addresses, etc) is about as effective as pissing in the wind, I will nevertheless ban individuals - just as a matter of principle - if I even suspect that they’re using my comments section for reasons other than the promotion of honest debate. The last thing I need is for my blog to become a better-looking version of the old Korea Herald discussion forum. Explicitly racist posts will be deleted and the posters immediately banned. I may or may not tolerate a fair amount of abuse aimed at yours truly, but I will respond to personal attacks on other commenters with a warning (and the deletion of the offending post), to be followed soon after with a ban in the event that the warning is ignored.
  • As I’ve said before, I appreciate 99% of the comments I receive on this blog. And to be frank, the ones I appreciate the most are from individuals like Chubby Bear, Gatorlog, and Adam Morris who openly hate much of my politics, but voice their disagreements in a way that conforms to the standards of civil discourse. I only wish they’d post more often. What I dislike are trolls and flamers who do nothing but come on this blog with the expressed purpose of either pulling my chain or the chains of other commenters. It distracts from the topics at hand and ruins the atmosphere of this forum. Think of this blog as a house party in which everyone is invited - all are welcome, but if you start insulting the owner of the house or, even worse, the other guests, you will promptly be shown the door.

I apologize for having to write a post like this. I beg your understanding.

Not mentionning lux bearer’s “gift” of a few heavy comments ripped from BigHo’s blog…

You don’t have to apologize for making such a statement Marmot. I just got hit with one of those ridiculous spams myself which I’m quite not too apperciative of seeing how I have a brand new site and don’t need to be scaring anyone away with crap like that. And so I am all for laying down the law because sometimes people need to be reminded of such. The Internet lets people do things they wouldn’t even think of doing face to face to another person and it certainly is one of the things I really hate about it.

Ah well, gotta live with it I suppose.

BTW does anyone know if it was actually lux bearer who has been leaving those “spams?”

I think it’s him. Some of the unsavory comments he made actually refer to things that have been said during a flamewar on Cathartidae. He just tried to hit my blog again right now, and failed. He won’t be even able to comment on my blog anymore…

juskiddin. i’ve been holidaying at the mother hive, so, no time for comments.

frankly speaking, what’s to comment on when you’ve been doing such a stand up job?

and i totally agree with your take on gatorlog…what a sharp reptile.

he’s also unhappy with the rather waste-of-space-ish aspect of the korean language blogworld.

happy holidays marmot. i hope you are gonna take time out for the shinhon yeohaeng…

    Heh.

I agree with you on one thing, i don’t comment enough. About the “openly hate” part though, I wouldn’t put it that way, more like “infinately frustrated” but, heh, I got what you meant.

    Thanks.
