IT’S OFFICIAL - The Marmot is married

As those who read the comments section over at Cathartidae already know, the Marmot and the Marmotess finally did the paperwork. Now, according to the laws of the Republic of Korea, Robert Koehler and Solongo Galbadrakh are officially husband and wife. Actually, I was surprised as to the ease at which the whole thing was accomplished - I popped by my embassy, she popped by hers, got the papers, brought them to the nearby (to my embassy, anyway) Jongno-gu Office to get stamped, and brought them back to the US Embassy for authentication. No embarrassing questions, no rectal swabs, and very little wait. The only snag we ran into is when the Jongno-gu Office informed us that the Mongolian Embassy had issued the Marmotess the wrong form, requiring her to run to her embassy in Hanam-dong just before closing in order to get the proper paper (this surprised the shit out of me, because you would have thought that after 70 years of Soviet-style communism, if there was one thing that Mongolian pencil-pushers were good at, it would be issuing forms). BTW, let me give a shout out to the Vice Consul of the US Embassy in Seoul, who is quite the friendly chap, and very helpful as well.

So, there you have it. We’re poor as church mice now, but at least we’re no longer living in sin.

Now, allow me to be be a complete whore and write that those wishing to give wedding presents can go to Flying Chair’s Asian Weblog Awards site and vote for me.

    Congratulations!!

A bit of advice; it is very easy to change a tourist visa to an F-3 depenant’s visa. Take your documents in, give W30,000 and your sweetie is nice an legal. Qualifies for health insurance, too.

Congratulations on your marriage. I have personal experience myself of getting married in Korea and dealing with the US Embassy. From my own experiences with marrying a foriegner, help your new wife to learn English if she can’t read, write, or speak it now. Help her to get her driver license, because when you get back to the US (depending on where you live) she’ll be stuck at home. I’m not sure how many Mongolians there are in Korea, but I’m sure there’s even less in the US. It’ll be stressful once you get her back home, but good luck.
