Jeff in Pusan continues to give us some outstanding analysis on South Korean issues. This time, he takes Korea to task for its closed markets and its refusal to liberalize. Most of what Jeff says is right on the mark - perhaps the most important thing to take from his post is this:
Again, why would Koreans want to help the US economy? Why would Korea want to create more opportunities for US companies? As new Korea blogger Mingi points out, Professor Yu Gyu Chang of Sookmyung Women’s University explains the problem with Korean negotiation and compromise to The Economist Intelligence Report as follows: There is no concept in Korea of a win-win solution to disputes, both sides always try and defeat the other. Brilliant self-assessment.
BW, as Jeff points out, there is a new Korea Blogger in town, and from what I’ve read so far, Mingi’s Jibber Jabber seems like a good one. It’s got some really interesting commentary and, best of all, he hates the Cowboys. Be sure to check it out.
