Saturday’s Korea Blog Roundup

  • Jeff over at Ruminations in Korea rips another ex-president who can’t keep his mouth shut on North Korea and tells us why we shouldn’t be “giving aid and comfort to the enemy.” A sample of what you’ll find:

Why would you give the enemy anything useful at all, let alone give the enemy food, energy, and a self-sustaining economy? It boggles the mind! When Germany was cold, hungry, and had no fuel, did we given them food, money, energy and a stable economy? No. We cut off their supply lines and carpet bombed the cities until they gave up and their leader committed suicide. Only after we had total victory and an unconditional surrender did we step in and help. We then built West Germany into one of the world’s strongest economies. Had we taken the French approach and planted trees so the Germans could march in the shade, then the US would be huddled together singing “Deutschland uber Allas.”

  • Kevin at IA takes his turn bashing Unification Minister Jeong Se-hyeon (this is turning into a regular gang-bang) and tells us why, “suspension” be damned, the reactor deal is dead.
  • Oranckay discusses “mountains of money.”
  • Kirk over at It Makes a Difference to the Sheep gives us his thoughts on South Korea’s recent downplaying of North Korean threats and what the Norks might be thinking.
  • Flying Yangban posts on 2003’s Miss Tibet - check out the pics!
  • The Infidel discusses the diplomatic games between Beijing, Taipei, and the small Australasian nation of Kiribati.
  • Animal lover Brian of Cathartidae writes on the poor treatment of animals in Korea.
  • Korea Sojourner (blog posts appear to be unlinkable, and if I were he, I would seriously consider moving to another blog engine like Blogspot, Blog-City, or the like) writes on Pyongyang’s Seoul’s “minders” accompanying Hwang to the United States and ROK shenanigans over sending troops to Iraq.
  • Why the hell does anyone publish what certified nut-case Kim Mong-chol, a.k.a. North Korea’s “unofficial” spokesman, says? Barry Briggs writes about some of Kim’s latest rantings:

If Kim is speaking on behalf of the North Korean government, as he claims he does, then that government has just threatened the people and territorial integrity of the US, in which case the US ought to consider an appropriate response: like making sure by force if necessary that the DPRK can never attack us.

If Kim is speaking on his own behalf, then the Asia Times ought to be ashamed for printing this drivel.

  • The Drambuie Man has two posts you should read - this one on Korean business practices (in this case, as it pertains to beer) and this one on Russia, Japan, China, pipelines, and the two Koreas.
  • Shawn over at Korea Life Blog posts some more kick-ass photos, this time of Seoul’s Technomart.

Thanks for the links. I’ve picked up a lot of hits from your site. One suggestion, add some more pictures. When I come here it looks like a newspaper without photos. Perhaps that’s what you’re aiming for, but pictures are a great way to living things up and grab people’s attention. :)
