No protesting the Norks in Jeju

Thanks go out to Rex for sending this one to me:

A minor scuffle erupted between a group of South Korean activists and police Saturday as the activists tried to hold an anti-North Korea protest rally near a stadium in this southern resort island where an inter-Korean sports and culture festival is under way.
The two activists tried in vain to unfurl a sign that said “Roh Moo-hyun, who succumbed to Kim Jong-il, should repent,” as police seized it and prevented them from chanting anti-Pyongyang slogans.

The Korean edition can be found here - apparently, the protestors in question also attempted to burn a North Korean flag inside a rental car (is that sort of activity covered in the contract?), during which the cops attempted to cover up the car windows in order to prevent those outside from viewing the spectacle. Look, international sporting events aren’t NORMALLY the place to hold political rallies. But this isn’t a normal sports event - like most of these inter-Korean events, they are politically motivated and carry with them very definite political messages. And needless to say, for the North Koreans, everything’s political. So if you’re going to hold political events on the public coin - and these games were sponsored by the Ministry of Unification and Ministry of Culture and Tourism - then you might as well let everyone have their say.
