Flying Yangban speaks his mind

No, I don’t link to him simply because he’s my best friend in Korea and has served on more than one occasion as the Marmot’s Bank of Last Resort - The Flying Yangban possesses a fine political mind, despite having did his grad work at that other DC school. Anyway, Andy doesn’t force us to scroll down his last post to find out what he thinks of Total Recall : the Koreans’ Cut - his title says it all:

It’s official: Roh Moo-hyun is the only man standing between Kim Jeong-il and the title of “worst national leader on the Korean Peninsula.”

The Yangban continues:

To be honest, I don’t feel sorry for the guy. He rode to office on a wave of anti-Americanism that his backers kept whipped up for several months before election day. Then he packs his cabinet with leftist ideologues who have little or no personal loyalty to him. Then he alienates most of the major political parties in Korea; including the majority of his own party (once he backed a leftist splinter group). So now he finds himself politically isolated. Too bad.

Spoken like a man worthy of running the Republicans Abroad Korea blog.
He concludes:

One more thing: Like many people in Korea, Roh’s flaking out makes me nervous. A few decades back, when politicians in Korea made people nervous, the tanks rolled out. It is a testament to the political maturity of Koreans and their democratic development that there has not even been a vague whisper of a possible coup despite the instability of the Roh government.

So sayeth the Yangban.
