The Marmot’s Korea Blogs List Expands

Put up three more blogs recently. Koreanist Peter Schroepfer’s weblog @ oranckay is a fascinating read with posts that feature some truly interesting links and a perspective quite different from anything you’ll read here (mostly on account of the fact that unlike myself, Mr. Schroepfer generally knows what he’s talking about). Anyway, his recent posts on North Korean art and the current mess/bullshit involving President Noh’s Minister of Home Affairs are must reads.

I found seeing eye blog during a routine check of my Sitmeter - another expat blog “barking at parked Hyundais”, I’d swear it was Kevin at IA’s Typepad experiment if I didn’t know any better. Anyway, it’s a pretty fun (and funny) read, I like the Mt. Pukhan-san pic in the corner, and his recent post on fascism raises some very interesting points - in particular, why so many of us refuse use the “f” word to describe North Korea:

Here’s why we don’t call North Korea fascist: Fascism has become a nasty word. And nasty words - because of the political-correctness that pervades our world - cannot be used to describe people or governments on the left, because the people on the left have good hearts and do whatever they do for a good cause. Nasty words, therefore, can only be used to describe those on the right, who have black hearts and eat babies.

I have a slight problem over the definitions (which I logged in his comments section), but it’s a sweet post nevertheless - at least for us black-hearted, dog baby-eating fascists.

Last, but not least, catch up on all the news from Warrior Country at Warrior News, maintained by Dave McNally, writer-editor for the Area I Support Activity Public Affairs Office in Uijeongbu, South Korea.

UPDATE: Mike, better known in these parts as the commentor Raymondo, admits to being the mind behind seeing eye dog.

Seeing Eye Blog was still in the experimental stage, but I guess now it’s out of the basement - this Typepad service (thanks, Marmot) makes it too hard for me to get frustrated and give up.
