More talks (yawn) likely in mid-October

A second round of talks (jump for joy!) is likely to be scheduled for mid-October, according to a government source cited by Yonhap News (Korean). The source is reported to have said, “The most important object of the first round of talks is to keep the dialogue momentum going so as to find a peaceful solution to the North Korean nuclear problem.” Apparently, the six nations are planning a joint statement pledging a continuation of the talks, although it’s not yet certain whether a specific time or place will be included in the statement. According to the source, however, it is likely that the talks will be held once again in Beijing, and mid-October seems to be the most probable time.

I know Winston Churchill once said that “To jaw-jaw is always better than to war-war” - ironically enough, about Korea - but I’m not so certain that’s the case with the North Koreans. So if another round is what is needed, North Korea had better feel a lot less comfortable when the next session convenes.

BTW, in case you haven’t check it out already, Kevin at IA has been quite busy rounding up the day’s events, so check it out.
