OK, my time at Blog-City was fun, but they are having just way too many problems over there. Don’t get me wrong - unlike Blogspot, I really like what Blog-City is doing, and they definately get an A for effort. And giving one free month to all their premium subscribers was a real nice thing to do - really, it was. But for some odd reason, a lot of the computers here in Korea are having trouble accessing Blog-City sites, which for a Korea-based blog really sucks.
Anyway, I do put a fair amount of time into this thing, so I figure an upgrade to the Movable Type-based Typepad was in order. Besides, they offer a one-month free-trial period, so I figure, “hey, why not give it a try?” I’ll tell you this, though - you can definately feel the power. I’m the master of my own blog-domain now - templates, trackbacks, comment system styles - they all bow down before the Great Marmot Khan.
I’m a big blog boy, now!

Wow, I no longer have to wait 30-40 seconds for your page to load…great move.
Congrats on the new digs, Marmot.
I myself decided against Typepad and have opted for MT instead. Got it up and running, but am going the extra step to incorporate a moblog and maybe posting in Unicode as well.
Will be back to beg for link when I’m finished.
You ought to make the blogs list text a bit bigger and perhaps cut down on the vertical spacing between them by a pixel or two.
Also, include links back to your old blogs over on the right.
Also, I have awesome template customizations for the admin side of MT. Email me if you are interested. If I don’t respond immediately I’m about to go heavily intermittent for about the next 3 weeks (loading up my laptop for road tripping even as I type this).
Also, don’t use grey text. It is harder to read. Make it black for max contrast. And make the text a bit bigger than it is at the moment. (I see you are revving the templates and style sheet even as I post comments).
Consider using percentages on the columns rather than fixed width. Try stretching my own site horizontally and see what I’m talking about.
Also, check out my comments and see how wide the section is for typing in the comment text. How did I do that? How can it stretch? If you can’t figure it out let me know.
Lost White Dude,
Yes! Your blog is now easier to access… but now, I’m required to leave an email address as well. Ah, no matter. Not a big deal.
BigHo
Sorry about that, Kevin… forgot to turn on the “anonymous comments” section. No more e-mails required.
And thanks a lot for all your suggestions, Mr. Parker. I’ll probably be fudging around with this thing for a couple of days. Really is quite addictive, this MT thing.
Look right next to your site meter icon. There’s some ill-formed HTML that is coming thru there.
Think your font is still a bit too small.
I might leave the font a little small for now. I know it’s a bit tough to read, but I really hate the way it formats with larger font.
Oh, and do you have any idea what might be the HTML problem? Sorry to pester you with stupid questions like this.
OK, I got that HTML problem fixed… just a bug with SiteMeter that shows up on Mozilla browsers for some odd reason.
BTW, where’s the roadtrip going?
Roadtrip: Florida. More of a plane trip. Seeing the family. Bought a new laptop and will be programming away and perhaps still doing some blogging while there.
At least you have the logical font sizes that can be scaled in IE. Moz can scale absolute font sizes but IE can’t.
I wondered where you disappeared to! As you say, I’m sure the folks at blog.city were nice, but it was getting impossible to access your site night or day. Congrats on the new site and the move.
(If there ever is a “next time,” send out a Change of Address form, ok? I found this by accident, following your link to water’s post about the one-man demo in Xian.
Ronin, I hope to hell there isn’t a next time. But if there is, you’ll be the first to know.

Another Blog-City refugee has arrived at a new home. It’s too bad about what’s going on at BC. I like their stuff but it’s just too frustrating to deal with for any length of time….
